Nell Brookfield currently lives and works in London.
b. 1994, London, England
Nell Brookfield offers claustrophobic crops of what could be larger works, asking the viewer to imagine what might lurk just beyond the edge of the canvas. Brookfield is drawn to painting human interactions, seen in places such as the subway, crowded rooms, films and books; painting from moments that exaggerate the strangeness of human behavior. Bright colours and patterns accentuate the charged moments and invite the viewer in; it’s only once they have relaxed into the painting that it becomes apparent that things are not quite as they seem.
